Dave Furgason has joined Nixon Shefrin Hensen Ogburn, P.C. as Of Counsel, bringing to the firm his extensive experience in litigation, client counseling and alternative dispute resolution. Dave is listed as an arbitrator in both the National Roster of Commercial Arbitrators and the Employment Dispute Resolution Roster of the American Arbitration Association. In addition to the cases for which he has been the arbitrator, Dave has successfully tried or otherwise resolved numerous cases on behalf of employers and individuals in state and federal courts, before administrative bodies, in arbitration hearings, and through mediation. Dave’s broad-based experience provides him with a solid background in commercial and employment litigation, including specific statutory matters involving employment discrimination laws, environmental laws, the Railway Labor Act and the Federal Railroad Safety Act, while representing a variety of businesses, individual clients, and labor unions.
Dave earned his Bachelor of Arts at The Colorado College and his Juris Doctorate at the University of Colorado School of Law. He has written extensively in the areas of legal ethics and professionalism and employment law, and has served as a faculty member for the Hanley Advanced Associates Program of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA).
Dave has been an active member of multiple bar associations, serving as president of the Denver Bar Association (1998-1999) and as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Colorado Bar Foundation. He has been a member of the Faculty of Federal Advocates and the Historical Society of the Tenth Judicial Circuit, has served on various committees of the Colorado Supreme Court and has been recognized as a Colorado Super Lawyer. Dave is also active in the community, most recently having served on the Board of Trustees of the Iliff School of Theology, and previously, as president and a board member of the Porter Memorial/Littleton Hospitals Foundation and chairman and a board member of the Visiting Nurse Corporation of Colorado, Inc. and the Visiting Nurse Association of the Denver Area, Inc. Dave retired as Captain, Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps and was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve.
In his free time, Dave enjoys time with his family, reading, playing golf, and pheasant and chukar hunting with his English Springer Spaniel, Clancy.
