Serena L. Hendon
Serena Hendon joined Nixon Shefrin Hensen Ogburn in 2016. After extensive experience as a civil engineer, Serena found her second calling as a litigation attorney specializing in construction defect, sureties, and employment. Prior to her current position, Serena worked for an insurance defense firm where she primarily represented contractors, subcontractors, and companies in construction defect and personal injury suits. She has negotiated with opposing counsel and worked with clients to find mutually beneficial solutions in both arbitration and civil action cases. From her prior experience as an engineering consultant, she understands the importance of keeping business relationships, particularly through the complexities of a legal dispute. Her practical knowledge of the construction process aids in her ability to advocate for clients in construction cases.
Serena is licensed to practice law in both Colorado and Wyoming. She is also a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Wyoming Bar Association, the Arapahoe County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Serena earned her Juris Doctor from University of Denver in 2012. While attending law school at night, she completed internships at the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel, U.S. Department of Justice, and the Colorado Office of Administrative Courts, along with continuing to work as a civil engineer. She also served as Secretary for the Student Trial Lawyers Association and as a Senior Editor for the Water Law Review. Serena received a B.S. in Civil Engineering and Technical Journalism and a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University in 1993 and 1995 respectively. She remains a licensed professional engineer in Colorado.
Outside of work, Serena enjoys spending time with her family and friends, fixing things around the house, yoga, collecting rocks, and exploring hot springs.
